The Carthage College men's volleyball team (20-10, 8-0 Midwest-III Volleyball Conference), ranked fourth in the March 29 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept Fontbonne University (8-15, 2-6 M-III), 3-0, on Saturday, April 2 in a semifinal match of the Midwest-III Volleyball Conference Tournament at Thiel College's Beeghly Gymnasium in Greenville, Pa. The Red Men's winning scores over the Tomcats were 25-12, 25-16 and 25-20.
The tournament got underway on Friday, April 1 with third-seeded Thiel College (10-19, 4-4) upsetting second-seeded the Milwaukee School of Engineering (11-17, 6-2 M-III), 3-1, with winning set scores of 26-28, 25-17, 25-20 and 26-24. Fourth-seeded Fontbonne University (8-14, 2-6) swept fifth-seeded the College of Mount St. Joseph (1-16, 0-8), 3-0, with winning scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23 in the other first-round contest. MSOE (11-17) plays Mount St. Joseph (1-16) in a 1 p.m., EDT consolation match on Saturday. The tournament concludes with Thiel (10-19) taking Carthage for the championship at 3 p.m., EDT.
