The Carthage College men's golf team (77-11) opened the spring portion of its 2010-11 season on Wednesday, March 16 by finishing third at the Central College “Dutch Desert Shootout” at the Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
Mesa Community College won the eight-team event with a 299 team score, one stroke ahead of Central at 300. Carthage was third at 305, followed by Wisconsin-Parkside fourth at 307, the Carthage “B” team fifth at 319, the Central “B” team sixth at 330, Simpson College seventh at 333 and Arizona Christian College eighth with a 334 mark.
Wisconsin-Parkside's Andrew Troyanek and Mesa's Eddie DeLashmutt tied for first place with 70s. Carthage's
Donnie Langland (So., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs, 74.1 season average) finished eighth with 75,
Brad Hyland (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 76.7) and
Tyler Prickette (Fr., Appleton, Wis./Xavier, 76.7) tied for ninth at 76,
Riley Bauman (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Central, 78.3) tied for 17th a 78, and
Anthony Burdi (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett, 76.1) was tied for 24th place with an 80.
For the Red Men's “B” team,
Bobby O'Neill (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort--Lincoln-Way East, 79.5) tied for 17th at 78,
Dan Parks (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey, 79.0) tied for 21st at 79,
Patrick Clavio (So., Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg, 77.9) tied for 24th at 80,
Andy Wojciechowicz (Sr., Racine, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford, 78.5) tied for 32nd at 82, and
Scott Shiple (Jr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East, 79.0) tied for 38th place with an 83. Carthage travels to Normal, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, April 1-2 for the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course (Noon/9 a.m.).
