Carthage College Director of Athletics Robert Bonn has named Mike Yeager football defensive coordinator. Yeager replaces John Sedeska, who resigned at the end of the 2010 season.

Yeager served as an assistant coach at Indiana University for five years from 2006 to 2010, three years coaching the safeties and two years with the linebackers. He was a graduate assistant for Hoosiers in 2005. “We are really excited to have Mike Yeager join our football staff,” said Bonn. He brings a wealth of college coaching experience and a passion for coaching NCAA Division III athletes.”

Prior to his arrival at Indiana, Yeager spent five years as an assistant coach at the College of Wooster.  He started as the Scots' wide receivers coach in 2000 and 2001 before moving to special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach in 2002 and defensive coordinator in 2003 and 2004.  As defensive coordinator in 2004, Yeager was on the losing end of Carthage's 14-7 win over the Wooster in the second round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship in Wooster, Ohio.

A native of Cincinnati, Yeager lettered three times at linebacker at Miami University between 1996 and 1999. As a senior, he was third on the team in tackles (116) and tied for the team lead in interceptions (3). He graduated in 1999 with a bachelor's in sport organization. He and his wife, Katrin, have a daughter, Rylan (age one). "I am thrilled to begin working at Carthage and for coach Tim Rucks,” says Yeager, “and I am excited to help Carthage regain a CCIW championship and return to the national playoffs.”
