Tyler Wollberg Named Carthage Women's Golf Coach

11/3/2011 8:22:00 AM

Carthage College Director of Athletics Robert Bonn has named Tyler Wollberg head women's golf coach.  Wollberg replaces Rick Leslie, who resigned in October to pursue other career interests.

Wollberg served as a part-time assistant women's coach in the fall and in the same capacity last spring with the men's golf team, following a standout playing career with the Red Men between 2006 and 2009.

A native of Mundelein, Ill., Wollberg was the medalist at the 2006 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Golf Championship his freshman year.  As a sophomore, he finished second at the 2007 CCIW championship and earned National Golf Coaches Association of America second-team All-America honors with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship.  Wollberg tied for first place at the 2008 conference championship and was a repeat NGCA second-team All-America pick with a 15th-place tie at the national championship.  As a senior in 2009, he finished second at the conference tournament and was named NGCA third-team All-America.

Wollberg graduated from Carthage in 2009 with a bachelor's in exercise and sport science.  He worked for several years as the assistant golf professional at the Steeplechase Golf Club in Mundelein, Ill.

“We are disappointed to lose Rick Leslie,” said Bonn, “but very excited and confident that Tyler will be a great golf coach for the Lady Reds.  His playing, coaching and professional experience have really prepared him for this opportunity.”
