The Carthage College men's swimming team (3-2 dual meet record) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 18-19 Wabash College “Patrick Woehnker Invitational.” The two-day event was conducted at the Wabash Class of 1950 Natatorium in Crawfordsville, Ind.
DePauw University won the seven-team event with 734.50 points, followed by the University of Indianapolis second at 556, Carthage third at 438, Wabash fourth at 337, Asbury University fifth at 332, Wheaton College (Ill.) sixth at 272.50 and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology seventh with 176 points.
Carthage's
Kyle Drake (Sr. Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) collected 71 of the Red Men's points with a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:54.60), and second-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (54.26), the 400 individual medley (4:09.69) and the 500 freestyle (4:45.65).
Ryan Ortmann (Sr. Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) was the only other men's swimmer to win an event. Ortmann tied University of Indianapolis's Nikolas Aresti for a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.88.
Teryn Solun (Fr. St. John, Ind./Lake Central), finished third in the 1,650 freestyle (16:51.39) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:55.16), while
Doug Schranck (Sr. Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) was fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:00.70) and fifth in the 100 butterfly.
The Red Men will play host the “Carthage College Swimming Classic” on Dec. 2-3 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. (9 a.m./5 p.m. both days).
