The Carthage College men's cross country team (25-17) finished third at the Saturday, Oct. 8 Lawrence University “Gene Davis Invitational” at the Reid Municipal Golf Course in Appleton, Wis.  Wisconsin-Whitewater won the six-team event with 22 points, followed by Wisconsin-Oshkosh second at 68, Carthage third at 72, Lawrence fourth at 76, Wisconsin-Stevens Point fifth at 139 and Lake Forest College sixth with 182 points.
 
Wisconsin-Whitewater's Dan Machmueller won the 8K race with a time of 26:27.77.  Carthage's Jake Mahaffey (Jr., Mahomet, Ill. /Mahomet-Seymour) finished third at 26:43.56.  Dan August (So., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East)  was 15th at 27:56.79, Grant Seiler (Jr., Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) 16th at 27:57.87, J.D. Fuller (Fr., Woodstock, Ill.) 25th at 28:30.49, and Derek Hall (Sr., Ingleside, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) finished 27th with a time of 28:34.96. 

Also running for the Red Men were Jose Flores (Sr., Round Lake, Ill./Fox Lake-Grant Community) 31st at 28:47.05, Russell Wetzel (Sr., Champaign, Ill./Central) 36th at 29:12.15, Paul Smith (Jr., Algonquin, Ill./Carpentersville—Dundee-Crown) 40th at 29:30.77, Josh Keck (Jr., Minooka, Ill.) 46th at 30:22.19, Dustin Parker (Jr., Waterford, Wis./Union) 53rd at 31:44.84, Matt Krause (So., Northfield, Ill./Winnetka-New Trier) 55th at 32:31.40 and Zachary Feldker (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Downs-Tri Valley) 60th with a time of 34:47.12. 

Carthage travels to Winneconne, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 15 to run in the Wisconsin-Oshkosh “Brooks Invitational” at the Lake Breeze Golf Course, beginning at 11:15 a.m.
