Final Results
The Carthage College women's tennis team (7-3, 5-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) finished second at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 7-8 CCIW Women's Tennis Championship at Carthage's Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.
Wheaton College (Ill.) won its 17th league title and seventh in a row with 72 points, followed by Carthage second at 45, Illinois Wesleyan University third at 35, Augustana College (Ill.) fourth at 33, North Central College fifth at 30, Elmhurst College sixth at 10 and Millikin University seventh with no points.
Carthage's
Hollis McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 6-8) lost to North Central College's Cory Schillerstrom in the first round of No. 1 singles, Schillerstrom winning, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. McPeek wound up losing in the playback semifinals, 8-5, to Illinois Wesleyan's Andrea Kerwin.
Bari Reynolds (So., Sterling, Ill., 13-4) won the league title at No. 2 singles over Wheaton's Sarah Ray, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Earlier, Reynolds won over Millikin's Lauren Lambert, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round of at No. 2 singles and then defeated Illinois Wesleyan's Helen Alex, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
Kristina Naidicz (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 10-6) lost the No. 3 singles title match to Wheaton's Kirsten Boyer, the latter winning, 2-6. 6-4, 6-0. Earlier, Naidicz won her first-round match at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Millikin's Brianna Hogan and then defeated Illinois Wesleyan's Lauren Drawbridge, 6-0, 6-1, in semifinal play.
Erin Henrickson (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 5-10) lost in the first round of No. 4 singles to Augustana's Meghan Wethington, the latter winning, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Henrickson wound up winning the third-place match, 8-4, over Illinois Wesleyan's Alissa Goetz.
Abby Ludwig (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 7-6) fell to North Central's Stephanie Brunetti in the No. 5 singles semifinals, Brunetti winning, 7-6(3), 6-2. Ludwig lost a third-place match, 9-8(7-3), to Augustana's Katie Scharnagle.
Amanda Bizub (Sr., Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead, 8-5) lost the No. 6 singles title match, 6-1, 6-2, to Wheaton's Julia Carey. Earlier, Bizub won a first-round match, 6-0, 6-0, over Elmhurst College's Jennifer Guenther before defeating Illinois Wesleyan's Tara Casey, 6-0, 6-4, in the semifinals.
The Lady Reds' No. 1 doubles team of McPeek and Naidicz (14-2) lost the title match to Wheaton's Elizabeth Worsowicz/Sarah Ray, 6-3, 7-5, after winning a semifinal contest over Illinois Wesleyan's Helen Alex/Andrea Kerwin, 7-5, 6-1. Carthage's No. 2 team of Reynolds and Henrickson (10-6) won the conference title over Wheaton's Melanie Milling/Marissa Shults, 6-3, 6-1, after defeating Illinois Wesleyan's Lauren Drawbridge/Alissa Goetz in the semifinals, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(7-4). Earlier, Reynolds and Henrickson defeated Reynolds Cross/Margaret Youel from Millikin, 6-2, 6-2, in first-round play. The No. 3 tandem of Ludwig and Bizub (4-8) lost in the playback semifinals after falling to Augustana's Chelsea Lavin/Emily Kaczmarek in first-round play, the Vikings team winning, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Carthage's
Hollis McPeek (Sr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest, 6-8) and
Bari Reynolds (So., Sterling, Ill., 13-4) were named first-team All-CCIW, while
Kristina Naidicz (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 10-6) was named to the second team. Reynolds was also named the MVP of the CCIW Women's Tennis Championship.
