The Carthage College women's cross country team (6-3) opened its 2010 season by finishing fourth at the Friday, Sept. 10 Aurora University “Spartan Classic” at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, Ill.  The University of Chicago won the 12-team event with 36 points, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University second at 43, Wheaton College (Ill.) third at 84, Carthage fourth at 98, North Central College fifth at 111, Aurora sixth at 199, Lake Forest College seventh at 206, Benedictine University (Ill.) eighth at 287,Sauk Valley College ninth at 294, Concordia University (Chicago) 10th at 302, Morton College 11th at 303 and Roosevelt University 12th with 330 points. Dominican University (Ill.) ninth at 193 and Cardinal Stritch University 10th with 222 points. 

 

Wheaton's Jennifer Lewis won the 6K race with a time of 23:13.70. Carthage's Karin Wirth (So., Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) finished eighth at 23:52.90. Katie Kummerer (Fr., Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale-Central) was 12th at 24:12.80, Molly Lawrence (Sr., Plainfield, Ill./Central) 23rd at 24:48.90, Morgan Wiechmann (So., Sleepy Hollow, Ill./Carpentersville—Dundee-Crown) 25th at 24:56.80 and Lauren Sible (Jr., Oregon, Ill./Byron) 37th at 25:32.10.
