Carthage Women's Golf Opens at Sept. 1 St. Francis (Ill.) Invitational

The Carthage College women's golf team opens its 2010-11 season at the Wednesday, Sept. 1 University of St. Francis (Ill.) Invitational at the Inwood Golf Course in Joliet, Ill. Carthage plays in nine other regular-season fall tournaments, including the Robert Morris University (Ill.) “Fall Classic,” the Illinois College Invitational, the North Central College “Cardinal Classic,” the Augustana College (Ill.) “Fall Classic,” the Knox College Invitational, the Monmouth College “Fighting Scots Invitational,” the Illinois Wesleyan University “Fall Classic,” the Millikin University “Fall Classic” and the Carthage Invitational. This year's CCIW Women's Golf Championship will be a three-day event at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton, Ill.
 
The Lady Reds (55-52-1) finished fifth at the 2009-10 CCIW Women's Golf Championship at the Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, Ill. Illinois Wesleyan University won its eighth-consecutive title with a 338-327-665 team score, seven strokes ahead of second-place Wheaton College (Ill.) at 336-336-772. Millikin University was third at 363-358-721, followed by North Central College fourth at 364-361-725, Carthage fifth at 364-363-727, Elmhurst College sixth at 366-367-743, Augustana College (Ill.) seventh at 395-285-780 and North Park University eighth with only a partial squad.
 
Illinois Wesleyan University's Lindsey Haines took medalist honors at the 2009 CCIW Women's Golf Championship with a 79-77-156. Millikin University's Brittany Holmes was second at 85-78-163. Carthage's Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) finished 13th at 87-90-177, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North) 18th at 89-92-181, Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) 22nd at 93-94-187, Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South) at 100-88-188 tied for 23rd with teammate Julie Klawitter (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) at 95-93-188, and Taylor McAdams (Fr., Sycamore, Ill.) finished 40th at 111-98-209.
 
Head coach Greg Genz begins his fifth year as the head coach for the Lady Reds in 2010-11. Genz returns all five starters and all 18 letterwinners from last year's fifth-place CCIW squad. Leading returnees include Amy Binstein (13th at the CCIW Women's Golf Championship and a team-leading 88.1 season average), Heidi Hoffman (18th at the CCIW championship, 92.2), Tabby Bell (22nd at the CCIW championship, 91.0), Katie Ramirez (23rd tie at the CCIW championship, 90.6), Julie Klawitter (23rd tie at the CCIW championship, 94.6) and Taylor McAdams (40th at the CCIW championship, 92.2).
 
Top newcomers include Danielle Coffman (Fr., Streamwood, Ill./Elgin-St. Edward Central Catholic, finished 11th at the 2009 Illinois High Scholl Association Class A Girls Golf Championship with an 86-88-174 and won medalist honors at the 2009 Rock Falls regional championship with an 87) and Natalie Haines (Fr., Geneva, Ill./Aurora-Rosary, Kane Country second-team all-area her senior year and finished fourth at the Naperville regional with an 89).
