The Carthage College men's tennis team (5-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) swept King's College (Pa., 0-1), 9-0, on Tuesday, March 9 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Carthage's Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 13-2) won his number-one singles match over Monarchs' Johnathan Hand, 6-2, 6-0, and Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 3-1) won his number-two singles match over Tim Carroll, 6-0, 6-0. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 7-4) was a winner at number-three singles, as was J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 3-5) at number-four singles, Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 5-4) at number-five singles and Alex McLean (So., Belleville, Ill./West, 4-2) at number-six singles.
Carthage's number-one doubles team of Ramoni and Lotz (4-2) was a winner, as was the number-two team of Andy Schwenke (Sr., Mukwonago, Wis.) and Chris Vargo (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York, 4-2) and the number-three tandem Whiteside and McLean and Rob Spiering (So., Wauwatosa, Wis./West, 1-0).
Carthage was scheduled to conclude its spring trip on Thursday, March 11 versus No. 22 Vassar College, but that contest was rained out. The Red Men travel to Oshkosh, Wis, on Saturday, March 20 to play Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 12:30 p.m. and CCIW-opponent Wheaton College (Ill.) at 3:30 p.m., both matches at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.
