The Carthage College men's volleyball team (7-4), ranked sixth in the Jan. 26 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, swept The Sage Colleges (1-5), 3-0, on Monday, Feb. 1 at the Kahl Center in Albany, N.Y. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Mavericks were 30-9, 30-9 and 30-11. Carthage's Matt Wallace (Jr., Plainfield, Ill./Naperville-Neuqua Valley) collected a match-high nine kills and hit .357, while Chris Falknor (Fr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had seven kills and hit .750.
Carthage went 4-0 to win the Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 30-31 State University of New York Institute of Technology “Wildcat Invitational” at the SUNY Tech Campus Center Gymnasium in Utica, N.Y. Carthage won two matches on Saturday, Jan. 30, sweeping the City College of New York (0-3) and Lancaster Bible College (1-5) by identical 3-0 scores. The Red Men's winning set scores over the Beavers were 30-11, 30-10 and 30-15, while their winning scores over the Chargers were 30-11, 30-20 and 30-11. On Sunday, Jan. 31, the Red Men swept Stevenson University (7-1) and D'Youville College (6-4), 3-0 each. Carthage's winning set scores over the Stevenson Mustangs were 30-22, 30-21 and 30-18, while the Red Men's winning scores over the D'Youville Spartans were 30-20, 30-18 and 30-23.
On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Red Men travel to St. Louis, Mo., for the first of two Midwest III Conference Crossover Tournaments. Carthage takes on the College of Mount St. Joseph (0-5, 0-1 M-III)) at Noon and Fontbonne University (1-0, 1-0 M-III) at 4 p.m. at Fontbonne's Dunham Student Activities Center.
