The Carthage College women's cross country team (33-22) finished sixth at the Friday, Oct. 8 Benedictine University (Ill.) “Eagle Invitational” at the Lisle Community Park in Lisle, Ill.
The University of St. Francis (Ill.) won the 18-team event with 41 points, 17 points ahead of Elmhurst College and St. Mary's College (Ind.) tied for third at 58 points each. Illinois Central College was fourth at 130, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University fifth at 182, Carthage sixth at 183, North Central College seventh at 197, Marian University eighth at 204, the University of Chicago ninth at 205, Benedictine (Ill.) 10th at 276, Dominican University (Ill.) 11th at 347, Moraine Valley Community College 12th at 369, Elgin Community College 13th at 388, Carl Sandburg College 14th at 392, Aurora University 15th at 412, Concordia University (Chicago) 16th at 418 and Beloit College tied for 17th place with Morton College at 424 points each.
Grace Hartman from St. Francis (Ill.) won the 6K race with a time of 23:34.59. Carthage's Katie DeLisle (Fr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was 26th at 23:23.56, Katie Garringer (Jr., Lombard, Ill./Glenbard East) 27th at 25:25.11, Katie Schmidt (Jr., Lemont, Ill.) 30th at 25:33.67, Kaylyn Haberland (Sr., Appleton, Wis./West) 46th at 26:05.83 and Nicole Phelps (Jr., Lisle, Ill.) 73rd at 27:22.34. Also finishing for the Lady Reds were Sam Shackleford (Sr., McHenry, Ill./East) at 27:42.00, Kayla Cardenas (So., Alton, Ill.) at 28:34.50 and Ellen Klahn (Sr., Montello, Wis./Princeton) at 30:00.25. Carthage travels to Winneconne, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 16 for the Wisconsin-Oshkosh “Brooks Invitational” at the Lake Breeze Golf Course, beginning at 11 a.m.
