Carthage Men's Swimming Wins Jan. 30 Wisconsin Private College Championship

Red Men Play Host to CCIW Championship on Feb. 18-20

The Carthage College men's swimming team (6-5 dual-meet record) won the Saturday, Jan. 30 Wisconsin Private College Swimming Championship at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.. Carthage won the six-team event with 308 points, followed by Lawrence University second at 95, Carroll University third at 76, the Marquette University club team fourth at 58, Beloit College fifth at 55 and Ripon College sixth with 40 points. The state title was the seventh in a row for the Red Men and their ninth overall.

Carthage's Alex Van Huis (Sr., Winneconne, Wis.) won three events, taking first place in the 100 butterfly (54.71), the 500 freestyle (4:55.93) and the 1,650 freestyle (17:01.22). Nathan Ripley (Sr., Middleton, Wis.) won both the 100 freestyle (meet-record 47.71 and won the event for the fourth-straight year) and the 200 freestyle (1:47.95), and Bob Pellican (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) took first place in both the 200 backstroke (2:00.26) and the 200 individual medley (2:05.17). 

The Red Men also picked up wins from Ryan Ortmann (So., Woodstock, Ill.) in the 50 freestyle (meet-record 21.83), Doug Schranck (So., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.73), Jake Carabelli (Fr., South Beloit, Ill./Rockton Hononegah) in the 200 butterfly (2:09.07) and Kyle Drake (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) in the 400 individual medley (4:17.01).
