Carthage Women's Golf Third at Sept. 8 North Central "Cardinal Classic"

The Carthage College women’s golf team (19-6) finished third at the Tuesday, Sept. 8 North Central College “Cardinal Classic” at the Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville, Ill. Wheaton College (Ill.) won the 10-team event with a 350 team score, five strokes ahead of second-place the University of St. Francis (Ill.) at 355. Carthage was third at 362, followed by Elmhurst College fourth at 368, the Carthage junior varsity team fifth at 383, Augustana College (Ill.) sixth at 390, North Central seventh at 392, Elmhurst College eighth at 395, Aurora University ninth at 415 and Benedictine University (Ill.) 10th with a 442 mark.

Britanny Bronson from Wheaton College (Ill.) took medalist with an 83. Carthage’s Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) tied for fourth place with an 87, Sarah Joers (So., Waukesha, Wis./West) tied for sixth with an 88, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North) tied for 12th with a 90, Aubrie Morano (So., North Prairie, Wis./Wales-Kettle Moraine) tied for 17th with a 92, and Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South) tied for 20th with a 93. For the Carthage junior varsity team, Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) tied for 22nd with a 94, Taylor McAdams (Fr., Sycamore, Ill.) tied for 27th with a 98, Julie Klawitter (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) tied or 32nd with a 99, Heidi Chronowski (Fr., Monticello, Iowa) tied for 38th with a 102, Jenna Apple (Fr., Bloomington, Ill.) and Joanna Young (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) tied for 42nd with 104s, and Brooke Mix (So., Westfield, Ind.) tied for 51st place with a 108.

Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
