Jenna Apple Ties for Third at Sept. 4 Robert Morris "Fall Classic"
The Carthage College women's golf team (5-0) opened its 2009-10 season by winning the Friday, Sept. 4 Robert Morris University (Ill.) “Fall Classic” at the Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago, Ill. Carthage won the six-team event with a 330 team score, five strokes ahead of both the University of St. Francis (Ill.) and Wheaton College (Ill.) tied for second at 335 each. North Central College was fourth at 336, followed by Elmhurst College fifth at 340 and Robert Morris sixth with a 377 mark.
North Central College’s Mariso Miko took medalist honors with a 76, while Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Gianna Tenuta, playing as an individual, was second with a 77. Carthage’s Jenna Apple (Fr., Bloomington, Ill.) tied for third place with a 79, Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) tied for fifth at 80, Taylor McAdams (Fr., Sycamore, Ill.) finished 13th at 84, Brooke Mix (So., Westfield, Ind.) tied for 20th at 87, and Julie Klawitter (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) was 25th with an 89. Also finishing for the Lady Reds were Heidi Chronowski (Fr., Monticello, Iowa) tied for 33rd at 93, Ashley Woller (So., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and Joanna Young (Fr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) tied for 37th at 95 each, Kiki Buege (Fr., Hudson, Wis.) tied for 45th at 97. Tara Davies (Fr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) 49th at 98, Cristal Tucker (So., Oak Forest, Ill.) tied for 51st at 100 and Izzy Pavlik (Fr., Plainfield, Ill./Joliet-Catholic Academy) 57th with a 110.

Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches. Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009. Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02. Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill. Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
