Katie Ramirez Ties for 11th Place at Sept. 5 Illinois College Invite
The Carthage College women’s golf team (14-4) traveled to Jacksonville, Ill., on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 5-6 to play in the Illinois College Invitational at the Links Course at Nichols Park.  The second day of the event was rained out, and Illinois Wesleyan University won the 17-team tournament with a 309 team score, 10 strokes ahead of second-place William Woods University at 319.  Washington University (Mo.) was third at 328, followed by Quincy University fourth at 336, Carthage fifth at 338, Millikin University sixth at 344, St. Ambrose University seventh at 346, McKendree University eighth at 348, Grinnell College ninth at 366, Augustana College (Ill.) 10th at 368, Monmouth College 11th at 388, Illinois College 12th at 392, Carl Sandburg Community College 13th at 421, Knox College 14th at 424, Lincoln Community College 15th at 440, Benedictine University (Ill.) 16th at 493, with MacMurray College not completing the first round.  

Hannah Buck from Washington (Mo.) and Lindsey Haines from Illinois Wesleyan shared medalist honors with 74s.  Carthage’s Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South) tied for 11th place with an 80, Sarah Joers (So., Waukesha, Wis./West) tied for 15th at 82, Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) tied for 28th at 86, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North) tied for 42nd at 90, and Aubrie Morano (So., North Prairie, Wis./Wales-Kettle Moraine) tied for 48th place with a 91.  Michelle Braun (So., Des Plaines, ill./Maine West) and Becky Volkman (Sr., Lake Villa, Ill./Antioch), both playing as individuals, shot  94 and 95, respectively.

Did You Know...
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
