The Carthage College women’s cross country team (16-7) finished eighth at the Friday, Sept. 25 Augustana College (Ill.) “Brissman-Lundeen Invitational” at the Credit Island Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.  Truman State University won the 21-team event with 36 points, followed by the University of Chicago second at 106, Central College third at 111, Olivet Nazarene University fourth at 138, Wisconsin-Stevens Point fifth at 156, Augustana (Ill.) sixth at 212, Iowa Central College seventh at 232, Carthage eighth at 234, Carroll University ninth at 245, Illinois Central College 10th at 278, Monmouth College 11th at 280, Elmhurst College 12th at 283, Grinnell College 13th at 304, Mount Mercy College 14th at 333, Cornell College 15th at 373, Loras College 16th at 461, North Iowa Area Community College 17th at 482, Principia College 18th at 535, Aurora University 19th at 535, Carl Sandburg College 20th at 645 and Webster University 21st with 651 points.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
