Carthage Women's Soccer Falls to Augustana (Ill.), 5-1, on Sept. 19

The Carthage College women’s soccer team (3-5, 0-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its CCIW-schedule on Saturday, Sept. 19 with a 5-1 loss to Augustana College (Ill., 6-0, 1-0 CCIW) at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Vikings opened up a 3-0 first-half lead and led, 3-1, at the break. Erin Coulson scored at 13:45, Caitlin Winkelman at 21:40 and Ashley Higuchi at 23:10. The Lady Reds’ Michelle Sobey scored at 43:05, but Augustana added a pair of second-period goals by Amanda Bucci at 80:22 and Katie Oakes at 83:48. Carthage travels to Lake Forest, Ill., on Wednesday, Sept. 23 to play Lake Forest College (4-3) in a 4:30 p.m. contest at Farwell Field.

Coach Brady Lindsley

Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009. Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10

Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.

Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"

The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02. Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill. Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.

Coach Leanne Ulmer

Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches. Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
