The Carthage College women’s golf team (30-26) finished 14th at the Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 19-20 Illinois Wesleyan University “Fall Classic” at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.  Washington University (Mo.) won the 20-team event with a 315-329-644 team score, six strokes ahead of second-place Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 324-326-650.  William Woods University was third at 338-318-656, followed by Olivet College fourth at 330-327-657, Illinois Wesleyan fifth at 335-326-661, Maryville University sixth at 337-328-665, Central College seventh at 336-338-674, Wisconsin-Whitewater eighth at 337-341-678, Rhodes College ninth at 350-330-680, Franklin College 10th at 343-339-682, Wisconsin-Stevens Point 11th at 347-338-685, the Illinois Wesleyan junior varsity team 12th at 358-332-690, Illinois-Springfield 13th at 352-353-705, Carthage 14th at 359-347-706, North Central College 15th at 358-349-707, Millikin University 16th at 375-350-725, Grinnell College 17th at 368-363-731, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 18th at 382-372-754, Loras College 19th at 375-383-758 and Illinois College 20th with a 396-367-763  mark.  

Jessica Urban from Wisconsin-Stevens Point took medalist honors with a 72-74-146.  Carthage’s Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South, a team-leading 87.3 season average) tied for 46th place with an 85-87-172, Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 89.3) finished 63rd with an 86-91-177, Taylor McAdams (Fr., Sycamore, Ill., 90.5) finished 71st with a 93-87-180, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North, 92.7) tied for 80th with a 95-91-186, and Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic. 89.2) also tied for 80th place with a 10-482-186.  Julie Klawitter (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey, 92.3) playing as an individual, tied for 72md place at 95-96-181.  Brooke Mix (So., Westfield, Ind., 95.0), also playing as an individual, tied for 92nd place with a 96-97-193.  Carthage travels to Oak Brook, Ill., on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for the Elmhurst College “Bluejay Classic” at the Oak Brook Country Club, beginning at 11 a.m.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
