Carthage Women's Soccer Drops Season-Opener, 2-0, at NCAA II Rollins on Sept. 1

The Carthage College women’s soccer team (0-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) opened its 2009 season on Tuesday, Sept. 1 with a 2-0 loss to NCAA Division II Rollins College (2-0) at the Barker Family Stadium at Cahall-Sandspur Field in Winter Park, Fla. The Tars opened their season on Saturday with a 2-0 win over the Savannah College of Art and Design. Rollins broke a scoreless halftime tie with a pair of second-period goals. Leah Hirsch broke the tie with an unassisted goal off a free kick at 56:59, and Anne Pippert added a score from the left-corner at 76:55, assisted by Joy Powell. Carthage plays host to the “Battle on the Border” tournament on Friday-Saturday at Art Keller Field. The Lady Reds take on St. Norbert College on Friday at 1 p.m. and Clarke College on Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
