Carthage Women's Golf Ninth at Sept. 11-12 Olivet Fall Invitational

The Carthage College women’s golf team (25-14) finished ninth at the Friday-Saturday, Sept. 11-12 Olivet College Fall Invitational at the Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.  Hope College won the 15-team event with a 332-326-658, one stroke ahead of Olivet at 333-326-659.  St. Francis (Ind.) was third at 341-331-672, followed by Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth at 351-342-693, North Central College fifth at 345368-713, Trine University sixth at 355-360-715, Aquinas College seventh at 378-343-721, Wittenberg University eighth at 364-361-725, Carthage ninth at 354-376-730, Northwestern Ohio 10th at 367-368-735, Albion College 11th at 385-381-756, Alma College 12th at 394-387-781, Kalamazoo College 13th at 401-391-792, Calvin College 14th at 389-408-797 and Adrian College 15th with a 422-405-827 mark.
 
Olivet’s Amber Conrad took medalist honors at 74-77-151.  Carthage’s Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic) tied for 19th place with an 83-92-175, Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) tied for 25th with an 85-94-179, Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South) tied for 42nd at 93-93-186, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North) tied for 52nd with a 93-97-190, and Jenna Apple (Fr., Bloomington, Ill.) tied for 74th place at 101-110-211.  Brooke Mix (So., Westfield, Ind.), playing as an individual, finished 38th at 93-89-182.  Aubrie Morano (So., North Prairie, Wis./Wales-Kettle Moraine), also playing as an individual, tied for 42nd at 91-95-196.  The Lady Reds travel to Normal, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 19-20 to play in the Illinois Wesleyan University “Fall Classic” at the Ironwood Golf Course.

Did You Know...
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
