The Carthage College women's cross country team (6-1) opened its 2009 season on Friday, Sept. 11 by finishing second at the Aurora University “Spartan Classic” at the Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora, Ill. Wheaton College (Ill.) won the 10-team event with 27 points, followed by Carthage second at 52, Concordia University (Wis.) third at 134, Aurora fourth at 163, North Central College fifth at 165, Concordia University (Chicago) sixth at 170, Sauk Valley Community College seventh at 175, Benedictine University (Ill.) eighth at 178, Dominican University (Ill.) ninth at 193 and the North Central junior varsity team 10th with 222 points. Wheaton's Jennifer Parisi won the 6K race with a time of 23:47.60. Carthage's Morgan Wiechamnn was fourth at 24:11.10, Karen Jackson fifth at 24:19.10, Karin Wirth 13th at 24:51.30, Lauren Sible 14th at 25:01.00, and Alyssa Poremba was 18th with a time of 25:17.90. The Lady Reds travel to Rock Island, Ill., on Friday, Sept. 25 for the Augustana College (Ill.) “Brissman-Lundeen Invitational” at the Credit Island Golf Course, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
