The Carthage College women's swimming team (3-1 dual-meet record) finished first at the Friday-Saturday, Dec. 4-5 TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage won the four-team event with 2,101 points, followed by St. Olaf College second at 1,800.50, Lake Forest College third at 973 and Ripon College fourth with 404.50 points.
Carthage's Amanda Croix (Jr., Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) won four events, taking first place in the 50 freestyle (pool-record 23.22), the 100 freestyle (50.98), the 200 freestyle (meet-record 1:52.87) and the 500 freestyle (Carthage-record 5:04.71). Croix' preliminary time of 50.87 in the 100 freestyle set a Koenitzer Aquatic Center record is currently the top time nationally in NCAA Division III. Michelle Pelka (Jr., Elgin, Ill./Elgin Academy) also won four events, taking first place in the 100 butterfly (59.97), the 200 butterfly (2:10.26), the 200 individual medley (2:12.83) and the 400 individual medley (meet-record 4:36.66). Lisa Tiltges (Jr., St. Charles, Ill./Aurora-Rosary) won both the 100 breaststroke (1:09.98) and the 200 breaststroke (2:33.12).
