The Directors' Cup is a program that honors institutions that maintain a broad-based program both in men's and women's sports. The Directors' Cup began in 1993-94 for NCAA Division I by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It was expanded in 1995-96 to include NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA institutions.
Each institution is awarded points in a pre-determined number of sports for men and women. The overall champion is the institution that records the highest number of points in their division's Directors' Cup standings. Williams has won the last 13 Division III titles. The scoring formula uses a formula of team and individual scoring with selected sports only counting as 50 percent.
