The Carthage College men’s swimming team (1-1 dual-meet record) defeated Lake Forest College, 126-78, on Friday, Nov. 6 at the Lake Forest Sports Center in Lake Forest, Ill. The Red Men picked up wins from Steven Mathe (Fr., Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein-Carmel Catholic) in the 800 freestyle (9:33.61), Mitchell Jackson (Jr., St. Louis, Mo./University City) in the 200 freestyle (2:054.54), Doug Schranck (So., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 50 freestyle (25.32), Jon Bond (Fr., Dixon, Ill.) in the 200 individual medley (2:23.44), Chris Varner (Jr., Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) in the 100 butterfly, Isaac Rothenbaum (Jr., Oak Park, Ill../Oak Park-River Forest) in the 400 freestyle (4:34.61). Carthage travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to take on NCAA Division I Purdue University in a 6 p.m., EST dual meet at Purdue’s Boilermaker Aquatic Center.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches. Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009. Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02. Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill. Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
