The 2008-09 Carthage College men's tennis team (18-7, 5-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) received an at-large berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. Carthage traveled to St. Louis, Mo., to play in the Central Region Championship at the Washington University (Mo.) Tao Tennis Center.
The Red Men shut out Westminster College (13-7), 5-0, on Friday, May 8 in a first-round match that was moved to the Kings Point Racquet Club in Belleville, Ill., due to rain. Carthage advanced but lost to No. 1 and defending-national-champion Washington (Mo., 20-2), 5-0, in the regional semifinals on Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. On the other side of the regional bracket, No. 12 DePauw University (22-3) defeated Grinnell College (18-10), 5-2, on May 9. Washington (Mo., 21-2) blanked DePauw (22-4), 5-0, for the regional championship on Sunday, May 10. Carthage made is seventh-straight NCAA appearance in 2009.
