The Carthage College men's swimming team (2-2 dual-meet record) finished second at the Friday-Saturday, Nov. 20-21 Wabash College “Patrick Woehnker Invitational” at the Class of 1950 Natatorium in Crawfordsville, Ind. NCAA Division II the University of Indianapolis won the six-team event with 606 points, just six and one-half points ahead of second-place Carthage at 599.5. DePauw University was third at 559.5, followed by Wabash fourth at 450.5, Wheaton College (Ill.) fifth at 334.5 and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sixth with 189 points.
The Red Men's Kyle Drake (Jr., Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) won the 200 backstroke (NCAA B cut 1:54.28), while finishing second in the 100 backstroke (53.74), the 200 individual medley (1:53.47) and the 400 individual medley (4:16.76). Alex Van Huis (Sr., Winneconne, Wis.) finished third in both the 400 individual medley (4:22.75) and the 1,650 freestyle (16:53.97). Bob Pellican (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) took third place in the 200 backstroke (2:01.32), as did Doug Schranck (So., Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic) in the 100 butterfly (52.66). The Red Men also picked up a win from their 200 freestyle relay team of Nathan Ripley (Sr., Middleton, Wis.), Blake Bendix (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn./Tech), Ryan Ortmann (So., Woodstock, Ill.) and Isaac Rothenbaum (Jr., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest). Carthage is idle over Thanksgiving weekend and returns to action on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 4-5 by playing host to the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. (9 a.m./5 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. /4 p.m. on Saturday).
