Amy Binstein Finishes 13th at CCIW Championship
The Carthage College women’s golf team (46-41-1) finished fifth at the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 2-3 CCIW Women’s Golf Championship at the Highland Park Country Club in Highland Park, Ill.  Illinois Wesleyan University won its eighth-consecutive title with a 338-327-665 team score, seven strokes ahead of second-place Wheaton College (Ill.) at 336-336-772.  Millikin University was third at 363-358-721, followed by North Central College fourth at 364-361-725, Carthage fifth at 364-363-727, Elmhurst College sixth at 366-367-743, Augustana College (Ill.) seventh at 395-285-780 and North Park University eighth with only a partial squad.
 
Illinois Wesleyan University’s Lindsey Haines took medalist honors with a 79-77-156.  Millikin University’s Brittany Holmes was second at 85-78-163.  Carthage’s Amy Binstein (Jr., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South, team-leading 87.2 season average) finished 13th at 87-90-177, Heidi Hoffman (Jr., Appleton, Wis./North, 91.3) 18th at 89-92-181, Tabby Bell (Fr., Bloomington, Ill./Central Catholic, 90.4) 22nd at 93-94-187, Katie Ramirez (Jr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale-South, 89.9) at 100-88-188 tied for 23rd with teammate Julie Klawitter (Fr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey, 93.8) at 95-93-188, and Taylor McAdams (Fr., Sycamore, Ill., 93.9) finished 40th at 111-98-209.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
