Men's Golf Third at Sept. 27-28 Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational

The Carthage College men’s golf team (18-4-1) finished third at the Sunday-Monday, Sept. 27-28 Wisconsin Lutheran College Fall Invitational at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford, Wis.  Wisconsin-Stout won the 15-team event with a 302-317-619 team score, four strokes ahead of second-place Carroll University at 309-314-623.  Carthage was third at 308-325-633, followed by the Carthage junior varsity team fourth at 310-326-636, Aurora University fifth at 317-322-639, Benedictine University (Ill.) sixth at 317-325-642, Elmhurst College seventh at 308-335-643, Viterbo University eighth at 333-337-670, the Milwaukee School of Engineering ninth at 327-344-671, St. Norbert College 10th at 337-338-675, Lawrence University 11th at 338-349-687, Concordia University (Wis.) at 330-361-691 tied for 12th with Wisconsin Lutheran at 334-357-691, Marian University 14th at 343-353-696 and Rockford College 15th with a 363-355-718 mark.
 
Carroll’s Michael Riek took medalist honors with a 72-76-148.  Carthage’s Donnie Langland was third at 77-75-152, Bobby O’Neill tied for 10th at 75-82-157, Andy Wojciechowicz tied for 16th at 756-83-159, Billy Stone tied for 32nd at 80-85-165, and Kenny Rudy tied for 50th at 87-86-173.  For the Red Men’s junior varsity squad, Anthony Milano finished ninth at 74-82-156, Ben Schroeder tied for 10th at 76-81-157, Scott Shiple tied for 21st at 80-82-162, Nate Moore tied for 23rd at 80-83-163, and Dan Parks tied for 32nd place with an 84-81-165.

Did You Know...
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
