Carthage Men's Cross Country Sixth at Oct. 2 Home Invitational

The Carthage College men’s cross country team (25-24) finished sixth at the Friday, Oct. 2 Carthage Invitational at the Wisconsin-Parkside course in Somers, Wis.  Wheaton College (Ill.) won the eight-team event with 24 points, followed by North Central College second at 42, St. Norbert College third at 111, Wisconsin-Oshkosh fourth at 133, Edgewood College fifth at 136, Carthage sixth at 160, Wisconsin-Whitewater seventh at 161 and Harper College eighth with 162 points.
 
North Central College’s Jacob Austin won the 8K race with a time of 26:13.30.  Carthage’s Tom Baran (So., Chicago, Ill./Niles-Notre Dame) was 14th at 27:21.00, B.J. Did You Know...
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
