The Carthage College men’s soccer team (5-7-4, 3-3 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated Finlandia University (2-17), 11-1, on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. Carthage led, 7-0, at halftime, with Jordan Innis (Fr., Lake in the Hills, Ill./Crystal Lake-South) scoring the first two goals. Drew Liogas (Fr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) scored three times, once in the first period and twice in the second half, while Rocco Fridono (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) scored two goals. Sean Stefanski (Jr., Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein-Carmel Catholic) tied a Carthage game record with three assists. On Sunday, Oct. 24, the Red Men take on St. John’s University (Minn., 5-8-2) in a 3 p.m. contest at Durenberger Field in Collegeville, Minn.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02. Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill. Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches. Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009. Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
