The Carthage College men’s cross country team (41-43) finished 20th at the Saturday, Oct. 17 Wisconsin-Oshkosh “Brooks Invitational” at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.  CCIW-member North Central College won the 35-team event with 22 points, followed by Wisconsin-Stevens Point second at 97, CCIW-member Augustana College (Ill.) third at 151, Calvin College fourth at 158, Wisconsin-Oshkosh fifth at 168, Wisconsin-Whitewater sixth at 186, Washington University (Mo.) seventh at 199, Grinnell College eighth at 223, Olivet Nazarene University ninth at 270, the University of Chicago 10th at 272, DePauw University 11th at 327, conference-member Wheaton College (Ill.) 12th at 336, Hope College 13th at 395, Coe College 14th at 401, Minnesota-Duluth 15th at 415, Bethel University (Minn.) 16th at 430, CCIW-member Illinois Wesleyan University 17th at 455, Adrian College 18th at 539, Monmouth College 19th at 549 and Carthage 20th with 575 points.
 
Dan Greeno from Bethel University (Minn.) won the 8K race with a time of 24:15.60.  Carthage’s Justin Sebens (Jr., Seymour, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) was 91st at 26:03.56, Jake Mahaffey (Fr., Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) 96th at 26:06.54, Josh Keck (Fr., Minooka, Ill.) 106th at 26:11.07, Tom Baran (So., Chicago, Ill./Niles-Notre Dame) 125th at 26:28.56, and Tyler Wishau (Sr., Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) was 157th at 27:06.41.  Also finishing for the Red Men were B.J. Fuller (So., Lake Villa, Ill..Lakes Community) at 27:07.03, Alex Nelson (Fr. Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
