Carthage Football Continues its 2009 Assault on the Record Book
Red Men Set 26 Game Records against North Central on Oct. 17

The Carthage College football team continued its assault on its own record book in the Oct. 17 North Central game, breaking or tying 10 school records, 10 Art Keller Field marks and six CCIW records:
    • 567 total offensive yards by Evan Jones, breaking his own mark of 468 set against Lakeland College earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 562 passing yards by Evan Jones, breaking his own mark of 446 set against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 84 passing attempts by Evan Jones, breaking his own mark of 56 set against Campbell University in 2008
    • 47 passing completions by Evan Jones, breaking his own mark of 40 against Lakeland College earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 6 touchdown passes by Evan Jones ties a mark originally set by Patrick Brown vs. North Park in 2000 and subsequently matched by Jones vs. Hope in 2008
    • 15 passing receptions by Jeff Koeneman, tying a mark set by Rob Garnes vs. North Park University in 2000
    • 562 total passing yards, breaking a mark of 491 yards against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 84 total passing attempts, breaking a mark of 74 vs. Wheaton College (Ill.) in 2008
    • 47 passing completions, breaking a mark 42 against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 33 first downs tied a mark set against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19

    • 562 total passing yards, breaking an Art Keller Field mark of 491 yards against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 84 total passing attempts, breaking an Art Keller Field mark of 74 set by Wheaton College (Ill.) in 2008
    • 47 total passing completions, breaking an Art Keller Field mark of 42 against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19
    • 33 first downs, which tied an Art Keller Field mark set against Lakeland earlier this season on Sept. 19

    • 84 passing attempts by Evan Jones broke a CCIW record of 75 set by Wheaton’s Keith Bishop vs. Millikin in 1985
    • 47 passing completions by Evan Jones broke a CCIW record of 42 set by Wheaton’s Keith Bishop vs. Millikin in 1985
    • 566 total passing yards broke a CCIW record of 533 set by North Park vs. Elmhurst in 1990
    • 84 total passing attempts broke a CCIW record of 75 set by Wheaton (Ill.) vs. Augustana (Ill.) in 1984 and Wheaton (Ill.) vs. Millikin in 1985

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
