The Carthage College men’s soccer team (3-6-4, 2-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) upended CCIW-opponent Millikin University (5-8-1, 0-3 CCIW), 6-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis. The game was in a scoreless tie at halftime, before the Red Men exploded with a six second-period goals.
Rafal Zalewski (So., Schiller Park, Ill./Franklin Park-East Leyden) scored at 55:00, assisted by Tyler Cortez. Tyler Peterson (Sr., New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) scored an unassisted goal at 64:00. Andrew Gamarra (Sr., Lexington, Ky./Dunbar) scored at 66:30, assisted by Josh Khoshbin. Mark Goldsberry (Jr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), assisted by Jordan Innis, scored at 75:00. Kosta Minchev (Fr., Skokie, Ill./Niles North), who doubles as Carthage’s football kickoff expert, finished things off with a pair of goals in the final three minutes , one at 87:00 and the other at 89:30. On Sunday, Oct. 18, the Red Men entertain conference-opponent Elmhurst College (9-3-2, 4-0-1 CCIW) in a 1 p.m. game, also at Art Keller Field.

Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches. Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02. Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill. Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009. Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
