Carthage Men's Golf Ties for Ninth at Oct. 11 Gustavus Adolphus "Twin Cities Classic"
Snow and Cold Limit Three-Day Tournament to One Round

The Carthage College men’s golf team (27-12-2) tied for ninth at place at the Sunday, Oct. 11 Gustavus Adolphus College “Twin Cities Classic” at The Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn. The Gustavus Adolphus event, originally scheduled for three days and 54 holes, was shortened to a one-day tournament due to snow and cold in upper-Minnesota. 

St. John’s University (Minn.) won the 20-team tournament with a 289 team score, four strokes ahead of second-place Illinois Wesleyan University at 291. Concordia University (St. Paul) was third at 293, followed by St. Cloud State University tied for fourth with the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 294 each, Nebraska Wesleyan University tied for sixth with the University of Manito at 296 each, Bethel University eighth at 298, Carthage tied for ninth with Concordia College (Minn.) at 300 each, Gustavus Adolphus tied for 11th with Wartburg College at 302 each, Central College 13th at 305, Luther College 14th at 307, Macalester College tied for 15th with the Gustavus Adolphus junior varsity team at 310 each, St. Olaf College 17th at 312, Wisconsin-Eau Claire 18th at 313, Loras College 19th at 315 and Augsburg College 20th with a 320 mark.
 
Carthage’s Donnie Langland (Fr., Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) tied for 11th place with a 72. Kyle Bahnick (Fr., Inverness, Ill./Palatine-Fremd) tied for 20th at 74, Bobby O’Neill (Jr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) and Billy Stone (So., Libertyville, Ill.) tied for 54th at 77 each, and Ben Schroeder (Fr., Ivanhoe, Ill./Mundelein) tied for 87th place with an 80.

Carthage's 24th Varsity Sports Begins in 2009-10
Carthage launches its 24th varsity sport in 2009-10, as the women's lacrosse team begins varsity play with a March 9-13 trip to Southern California.
Coach Brady Lindsley
Carthage women's tennis coach Brady Lindsley won his 200th career match in the fall of 2009.  Lindsley, with a 204-79 record heading into the spring 2010 portion of the season, has been named CCIW "Women's Tennis Coach of the Year" three times.
Coach Leanne Ulmer
Head women's volleyball coach Leanne Ulmer entered the 2009 season with a .759 winning percentage over seven seasons, which ranks 12th among active NCAA Division III coaches.  Ulmer has won six CCIW titles in nine years at Carthage, inclduing a  shared title in 2004 and outright titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Carthage's "Mr. Touchdown"
The last living member of Carthage's first football team, the 1895 squad, was William Simmons, "02.  Simmons was honored at a 1958 Carthage game for scoring the Red Men's first-ever home touchdown in an 18-0 win over Quincy University on Nov. 28, 1895 in Carthage, Ill.  Simmons scored on a 75-yard fumble recovery.
